Nigh Leadership Academy HomeThis is a featured page

The George and Donna Nigh Leadership Scholarship Academy was established by the State Legislature in 1999 to honor their contributions to public service. I

In December of each academic year the Presidents of Higher Education in Oklahoma receive nomination forms to select one student that has demonstrated leadership qualities, high academic achievement and community involvement in his/her respective institution. The selected Scholars spend five days in Oklahoma City in February under the leadership of the Director of the Academy, Carl F. Reherman, Associate Directors Pete Regan and Bobby Stem, and assistants Glo Reherman and Amy Regan, enjoying personal contacts with the State’s governmental leadership, academic leadership and prominent community and business persons.

The curriculum for these five days include presentations on the most prevalent topics to the future of Oklahoma from Oklahoma’s community and business leaders and experiencing government in action at the State Capitol. Upon completion of the Academy these Scholars will receive a $1000 cash scholarship resulting from their selection and participation. Hotel, meals, and in-town transportation expenses, while attending the Academy, are covered by the Academy. Personal expenses and travel to and from the Academy are the Scholars personal expense.

There are four requirements the student must meet to be awarded the scholarship:
1. Student must be nominated by the Institution's President
2. Students must have graduated from an Oklahoma High School
3. Student must be planning a career in Public Service.
4. Students must attend all Academy activities.

This prestigious Academy has brought many Scholars to the forefront in their contributions and abilities to be leaders of our fine State. Today we are privileged to have three former Scholars serving in the State House of Representatives; Trebor Worthen, Ryan McMullen and Scott Inman.

Academy dates are Friday, February 21st - Tuesday, February 24th.
Academy is held in Oklahoma City.

Deadline for nominations is December 1, 2008.
Selected Scholars will be notified no later than January 10th, 2009.

Please see the 2008 Agenda page for a SAMPLE of activities for the 2009 Academy.
